A forced layover in São Paulo

Aclimação, São Paulo, Brasil |Quinta-Feira, 29 de Agosto de 2013

After realizing I was stranded at the São Paulo Airport (GRU) and had nowhere to go, one of my Rotex friends picked me up. Otavio came as soon as he left work, and brought me to Paula’s house. Four years ago, Paula and I were 4760 Outbounds together, and we hadn’t seen each other since then. During the day I hung out with another former Rotary Exchange Student, Ciro, who had just come back from Germany. He showed me the MASP (São Paulo Museum of Art).

But Rotary is a family, and it doesn’t matter how much time we spend apart, when we get together it’s the same old thing. And everything that brought us together in the first place comes back. Hanging out with my old exchange student friend again and meeting her family was delightful. While her father was the biggest cachaça expert, her mom was the best cook. I stayed with her family for 3 nights, until they dropped me off at the airport. For someone who didn’t even have a place to go, I quite enjoyed my forced layover in the big city. At 1:30am, on August 30th, I finally boarded my flight to South Africa. Joburg, here I come.

Joanesburgo, aqui vou eu.
